Last updated: 2 September 2026. This policy explains what information SchengenStay.EU ("the site", "we") processes when you visit, why, and how you can control it. If anything here is unclear, email info@schengenstay.eu.
The short version
- The calculator works entirely in your browser. The trips you enter are stored on your device only and are never sent to us.
- We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic.
- Advertising, where present, is served by third parties who may use cookies. A consent banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies.
- We do not sell personal data.
Information processed
1. Calculator inputs (local only)
When you use the calculator, the entry date and past-trip dates you type are saved in your browser's localStorage under the keys schengen_calc_state and site_lang, and are also reflected in the page URL so you can bookmark or share a plan. This data stays on your device. It is not transmitted to our servers, and we have no ability to read it. Clearing it is done with the Reset all button, or by clearing site data in your browser.
2. Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded via Google Tag Manager (container GTM-5VH7954R), to measure aggregate usage — pages viewed, approximate region, device type, and events such as "calculator used". Analytics may set cookies and process your IP address (which Google truncates/anonymises). This helps us see which guides are useful and where the site is confusing. Analytics is loaded in line with your consent choice where consent is required.
3. Advertising
To help cover running costs, the site may display advertising from third-party networks, which could include Google AdSense and/or other ad partners. When active, these partners may set and read cookies or similar identifiers to select and measure ads, and in some configurations to show interest-based advertising. Each partner processes data under its own privacy policy — for Google, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out of personalised Google ads at Google Ad Settings and manage other vendors via Your Online Choices.
4. Consent management
A consent banner provided by CookiesMan records your cookie preferences (accept / reject / customise) so that analytics and advertising scripts load only as permitted. Your preference is stored in your browser and can be changed at any time from the banner's controls.
5. Fonts and hosting
Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of serving the font files. Static hosting and CDN providers process standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) for security and delivery. These logs are retained only as long as needed for those purposes.
Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
- Strictly necessary operations (serving the page, remembering your consent choice): our legitimate interest / your request.
- Analytics and advertising cookies: your consent, given through the banner. You may withdraw it at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because the calculator holds no data on our side, most requests relate to analytics or advertising and are best exercised through the tools linked above or by contacting the relevant provider. You can also email us and we will help where we can. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
The site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site's services change. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
